energy independance

I don't know what you were doing in 1993 when President Clinton tried to pass a new BTU tax in the name of global warming and all carbon is bad. This new tax would have added hundreds of millions to the Federal coffers.

Did President Clinton or Al Gore, in the same legislation, specifically designate this new WINDFALL PROFITS TAX REVENUE to fund alternative fuels???  NO THEY DID NOT.

Sort of like Obama's new position on taxing the windfall profits of US oil company's and using that money to fund a REBATE CHECK to all americans.  WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THEIR IDEALISTIC VALUES ABOUT CARBON IS BAD?

THEY DIDN'T WANT TO DO THAT!!!   NO CARBON, BUT NO ALTERNATIVE, NO ENERGY INDEPENDENCE. JUST GIVE US THE MONEY ATTITUDE AND WE WILL PASS IT OUT AS WE SEE FIT.

WHAT IS YOUR POSITION ON ENERGY INDEPENDENCE?

Energy independence

Yes, energy independence is good for America.  But petroleum independence is even better.  As Jensen argues, carbon emission is bad: it may well create life threatening problems within a matter of decades unless we drastically reduce our carbon output.  So let us resolve to forsake drilling and to suffer high fuel prices gladly, because both help us reduce carbon output. Just within the last few months rising gas prices have sharply cut unnecessary driving,  have made gas guzzlers less popular, and have increased support for alternative energy development.  Remember that Europeans pay $8 to $10 per gallon for gas, and they are far ahead of America in cutting emissions, developing clean energy, and preparing for catastrophic climate change.
