Christine Jennings Sees No Real Solutions from President Bush
Sarasota, Fla. - Christine Jennings, Democratic Congressional Candidate in Florida's 13th District, released the following statement in response to President Bush's final State of the Union address:
Last night, as President Bush gave his final State of the Union address, I was struck by just how out of touch he is with the real state of our country. Instead of offering dynamic solutions to the major challenges our country is facing, we saw proposals that were too narrow and a vision that was too small.
We need a long term plan for stabilizing and reinvigorating our country's economy that every American will benefit from. While I was glad to hear the President talk about a stimulus plan, I hope that we can also focus on investments that will provide more than just a band-aid to our declining economy.
I would have liked to have heard about serious reforms to deal with the housing crisis affecting so many people in our community and around the nation. I was disappointed that the President did not even mention the need to deal with skyrocketing homeowners insurance rates in states like Florida.
I am running for Congress because I believe it is time to come together as a nation and work to solve the serious challenges we face. I want to put aside the bipartisanship that has plagued Washington, and focus on new solutions that will get things done for the people of my district and country. Last night showed that it is time for change - to end the status quo and deliver real solutions for our country."
